Celebrating Pride Month is about raising awareness and visibility of all aspects of the Rainbow, including our Trans and Non-Binary Communities.
Traditionally, Pride has been considered by many to be ‘Gay’ Pride, but this does not capture the diversity of our LGBTTQIA+ Communities of which Gender Diversity (Trans and Non-Binary) and Intersex (the I) communities are part of. These are areas that still require the most advocacy and support, including things such as Gender Inclusive Bathrooms in our schools and workplaces and Gender Affirming policies and practices. Being a proud Ally for our LGBTTQIA+ communities remains super important to creating safe, welcoming and inclusive communities and workplaces.
Being an ally doesn’t take much. Start small, and grow your allyship through small everyday actions.
Allyship is about speaking up and standing up against homo, bi and transphobia, especially in our workplaces and organisations.

Pride remains critical for our LGBTTQIA+ communities to come together and celebrate, raise awareness and to advocate for improvement in rights, laws and systems, here and around the world. While things may seem ‘ok’ in New Zealand, anti-Rainbow Laws are prevalent in almost 70 countries. Everyone can take part in Pride when it shows up in your town or city, whether you are Rainbow or an Ally!
